Origins of the Parsis
The Parsi community traces its beginnings to ancient Persia, where Zoroastrianism was the state religion for centuries.
To preserve their faith after the 7th-century Arab invasion, a group of Zoroastrians migrated to the western coast of India and settled in Sanjan, Gujarat.
Their arrival is beautifully captured in the legend of Jadi Rana and the “Sugar in Milk” story — symbolising how the Parsis promised to blend harmoniously into Indian society while adding sweetness and value. This philosophy continues to define the community even today.
